For efficient SEO, it is important that you follow hierarchy with H1 and H2 heading tags and use consistent formatting. Proper Use of H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 heading elements offers your content a pattern that can be followed by the reader easily.
While keyword prominence is still an important ranking factor, whether it is within the H1 or simply highlighted at the top of the page, there is another level to the effect of the H1 tag on organic search performance. A page’s ability to effectively engage users is another way Google organizes its search results. The bounce rate is arguably the most important engagement metric as measured by Google’s algorithm.
Try keep your page meta-descriptions between 70 & 160 characters including spaces and punctuation. (No magic SEO formula here, Search Engines do not display more than 160 characters in their search result descriptions). All in all, when focusing on on-page optimization in 2016, it is absolutely still valuable to spend some time and attention on the H1 tag. The Google Hummingbird algorithm update, which aims to provide a positive user experience, opens up a great opportunity for optimizing an H1 tag. A key feature of the Hummingbird algorithm is Google’s drive and ability to look past the keywords in a search query and extract the user’s intent. By understanding the search intent behind a target keyword query, an H1 can be crafted to speak directly to that intent. If Google agrees with your interpretation of the user’s intent and it is effectively communicated in the H1 tag, this can certainly lead to a ranking promotion.

This is a very interesting piece especially to we newbies, this is how i use my heading tags, on home page i use H1 on blog title then H2 for Post tiltle. then on post page, i use H1 for the post title only. Hope am doing it right
Make sure you have a H1 on each and every page. If you go right into the body copy without an introduction, visitors might get confused or unsure about whether or not they’re on the right page. It’s kind of like reading a newspaper article without a headline.
Well there is no thumb rule on how many times H2, H3 and H4 tags can be repeated in a post.
